As women, we recognize the strength that comes from partnership. By working together, we can foster the changes that equip women with the tools, support, and resources to pursue their aspirations in education, careers, and family lives.
This means increasing access to affordable, quality childcare. It should not cost more to put a toddler and an infant in childcare for a year than it does to send a child to one of Mississippi’s fine public colleges.
It means encouraging workplace flexibility. Women can have it all, but they should not have to do it all alone. In today’s society, we can afford them the opportunities to achieve a real work-life balance.
It means enforcing child support to make fathers equally responsible for their children. Mothers have borne this burden alone for too long.
It means providing women with resources to upskill, educate, and grow. Important efforts like MAMA.MS.GOV put the tools in all our hands to help women and their children become strong, healthy families.
It means supplying female professionals with paid maternity leave to encourage moms to build strong families as well as professional careers.
To celebrate the brave and trailblazing women who came before us, join me in using Women’s History Month to join forces in empowering, inspiring, and supporting the women and children in our lives. Our actions today will cultivate generations of resilient, confident, and courageous Mississippians who will lead us to our best future.
