The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of more than 17,000 professional women of African descent in 299 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom.
The international organization is the recipient of awards from the UN Association of New York and the Leon H. Sullivan Foundation for its premier programs. In 2019, The Links, Incorporated was nominated for a Luxembourg Peace Prize by the Schengen Peace Foundation and recognized by the late Congressman John Lewis as a distinguished organization of outstanding community service and influence.
The outstanding programming of The Links, Incorporated has five facets which include Services to Youth, The Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services and Health and Human Services. The programs are implemented through strategies such as public information and education, economic development, and public policy campaigns.
Chartered on March 5, 1988, The Le Fleur’s Bluff (MS) Chapter, 23 women in the Jackson, Mississippi area formed an interest group aimed at providing much-needed service to local inner-city youth. Academics remain our key effort. In an effort to improve literacy, students were given summer reading books at year end and assisted with reading comprehension and assignments. We host an annual Mardi Gras Ball to help fund our effort to promote college education and assist those in school and to grow our endowed scholarship at Jackson State University on the name of our Chapter Organizer, Beatrice Mosley, and an annual contribution to the United Negro College Fund to help students at Tougaloo and Rust Colleges. We also provide financial support to Jackson Public Schools and The Piney Woods School.
Members generously devote a minimum of 48 hours every year to serving the needs of our community: Services to Youth; The Arts; National Trends and Services; International Trends and Services; and Health and Human Services. We perform volunteer services with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area, Jim Hill High School, Dress for Success, Jackson State University, Tougaloo College and others.
We are an award-winning chapter with recognition at the Area and National levels of The Links, Incorporated. For the honor and recognition of our Chapter and our Link Sister, Jennifer Wallace- Young, we are grateful to the Connecting the Dots Foundation.
